An ftp serve is available in one of the packages. So if your build system is a RedHat 6.2 system and you only link against the libs actually available in PWL things should work. Anyways... pwlconfig has an option available which will create 2 partitions on the target device, a bootable FAT partition with kernel and an ext2 partition with an uncompressed filesystem which is copied into a RAM disk at boot time. This option should work with the DOC. > I am running pwlconfig from an HDD (/dev/hda) on the Wafer board with the > DOC. I can mount and the pwlconfig works just fine. I have never tried running pwlconfig on the same platform as my target, so I never attempted to actually have pwlconfig load a filesystem onto an attached DOC. I always used the intermediate step of loading a CF and moving files from it to the DOC once its running on the target system. > Can you set the target device as /dev/msys/fla1? How id your syslinux.cfg > file setup? Does it somehow load that doc.b or something? I think /dev/fla or /dev/msys/fla should work. pwlconfig works on the complete target device, not a single partition. It will use fdisk and filesystem tools to prepare and load the device. > What should the root= parameter be set to in the syslinux.cfg? Not sure, it's been a while since I manually tweaked syslinux.cfg. pwlconfig should do all that for you... > I am a little lost when it comes to syslinux. I was just so impressed at how > easy it was to do with CF, that this DOC system is almost making me cry :(. Yup, been there, done that. In my opinion getting DOC to support an ext2 filesystem to boot from is nothing short of a nightmare. I would avoid that scenario at all costs. Keeping the bootpartition FAT and using syslinux should be quite doable and fairly easy to reproduce once succeeded. BTW, I think you had asked me to be added to the PWL mailing list. I just added you manually. Hope this is ok. I've been able to get the basic kernel in version 0.61 to boot on my X86 embedded board using a 8MB compact flash card but there are a number of issues I am tryng to resolve. I beleive all of my problems can be traced to installing PeeWee on a Redhat 7.2 system but I am not completely convinced. First, the problems- The kernel seems slow to boot (abt. 1 min). I am using a compressed bzImage and a compressed file system on a single ext2 partition with LILO. I am passing append="console=ttyS1,9600n8" to the kernel which should re-direct all the boot info to the ttyS1 device. Could it be that the lilo binary in the Redhat 7.2 system is causing this problem? The initialization sequence also indicates there is a PC keyboard timeout. Since I don't have hardware for a PC keyboard, should I be looking here? I can't seem to compile any custom kernel without the make bzImage failing with a problem in checksum.s. Is this because the assember installed on the redhat 7.2 system has been changed in some manner to not allow the checksum/s file to be assembled cleanly? Is it possible to install and run PeeWee version 0.61 on a sysem running version a version 2.4 kernel such as Redhat 7.2 without modifications? If modifications are required to make Pee Wee Linux version 0.61 run cleanly on a Redhat 7.2 box. Would the procedure make it work be more painful than getting a new hard disk and installing Redhat 6.2 on it? Thanks, Steve Rodgers San Diego, CA
