I'm surprised no one answered this. I'm replying FTR as it's a good FAQ
item. And I had lots of fun looking into ash. :)

pwl doesn't have bash, 512540 under rh7.0, it has ash, 64924 under 6.2.

Ash doesn't support history. I *think* it doesn't support prompt
variables. Hard to find docs for it but that's the impression I get from
var.c. (I am not a c-geek but all it seems to do is set it to either $ or
#.)
