root password?

Ok,

I've finally got something booting off of a DOC device.  This is
awesome.  One small problem, how do I log in?  I built the kernel myself
from Redhat 6.2.  One thing I've always taken for granted is that the
RedHat installation process always asks you to provide the root
password.   Without my crutch of the Redhat install system I seem to be
at somewhat of a disadvantage.

What do I do?
