console msgs and serial port problems

It has no console at all.  It'll be fielded in an area difficult
for people to access.

Yes and since there's no video card, the console ends up on
ttyS0, which "dorks" the modem.  We can't find a way put it
elsewhere or completely shut it off.  BTW, ttyS1 also has a modem
on it.

Surely, someone else must have come across this problem where
PeeWee Linux is used on a machine without a video card and where
both serial ports are in use?
